The Iguana
December 27, 2007 by preacherskidster
Today I decided that I would be impulsive, So I went to the local pet store (aka Petco) to find something on which to spend gobs of money. After several minutes of browsing through aisles of white laboratory rats, $500 birds, and odd looking crabs, I finally decided to go with a lizard of some sort, shape, and color. I took me another several minutes of browsing terraniums, and trying to find one that I liked. Finally I settled on one very special lizard. I bought an Iguana. Supposedly they can reach up to 6 feet in length, but that is supposed to take a couple years to happen… hopefully
I am currently without a name for him, and am open to taking suggestions… This ought to be sad, with the very small number of people that read my blog.

Mabye no one reads it because you never post.
That’s cool. But i was just wandering, do you have plans for a big terrarium because before you know it he’s gonna be huge and when i waited too long to get a new home for byron he got his tail caught in between something in his tank and broke it. And when iguanas grow up you almost have to get a whole room for them to stay in. In PA you might be able to get away with an outdoor home but in winter when he’s grown (from the small amount of research i’ve done) you’ll have to get at the very least a 5′X5′X3′ tank. Also they are alot more fragile than most lizards and if you don’t keep up on gutloading insects and giveing them vitamins they will have health problems. And google search in images “full grown iguana” to see how huge ugly and mean they get. They don’t stay so cute forever.
Iguanas are cool and if your up for the challenge then i’m sure you’ll have fun with him, but incase you want other options the Bearded Dragons are really cool and grow about 1&1/2 feet long. They’re a little more hardy than other lizards and you don’t have to spend a fortune on a huge tank.
And Australian Water Dragons (that’s what i have) are very hardy, they can servive cool temperatures and resist parasites well. They grow three feet long (body 1 foot & tail 2 feet) so you have to get together at least a big indoor tank for the winter months.
If you want to tank on an iguana thats really cool but i’m just warning you, it’s a project.
